PETER C. ILOBA (born May 27) better known by his stage name POUNDZ is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter. Hailing from IBUSA, Delta State, Nigeria, he owns his own record label ‘ Poundz Record’.
Started making music in 2020, delivering his first Single in June 2022, named ‘BETTER ’, he has been continually putting out tracks from that point onward. His main genre of music is Hip-Hop and Afro-Pop.
The name POUNDZ, as you can guess, is derived from the British Pound. Where he comes from, it signifies wealth. From day 1, he has always wanted his music to sound like wealth, to inspire someone out there to do what they got to do and get their bread up. That’s the energy we got to be on, cause this music industry is about changing our lives and bank account balances. So, when he thought about what name he could go with, the name representing wealth to people like him made sense. Ever since then, all his tracks are released under his Stage name.
He describes his music as opulence with a heart. The glam, the flash, the lifestyle, the adventure, and the power are there. You feel those in the beats, hooks, and rhymes. With a come up, the inner conflict, the struggle, and the inner critic’s voice to go with that. It’s a collection of snapshots of life from his perspective over hard-hitting instrumentation, for the club, the car, and private rooms.
His creative process depends on the energy we’ll be on in the studio. Sometimes the production is the spark, sometimes he can have something he wants to rap about, and then the producers do their thing. It’s all about being in the right headspace and having the right sound to speak his truth on.
POUNDZ came from his native country nearly a decade ago as a young man figuring life out. He had to get his life straight and there were long periods of isolation and contemplation after his university education, in Turkey first and then Cyprus. When the music kept calling, he had to answer, and after years in the studio sweating the technique, 2022 was when his first song dropped. It’s been a ride and a half.

He grew up listening to hip-hop legends such as 50 Cent and Jay Z and their music made him want to get out there and level up. Sonically, he takes inspiration from R&B, Afropop, Soul, Afrobeat, and Highlife. He doesn’t just want to rap well, also wants to sound good.
People can expect a bunch of new music, content, and videos. POUNDZ wants people to soundtrack this life and make someone out there want to be the best version of themselves. Slick raps, great hooks, and a timeless sound. And he will keep working hard to reach the stage that few do.
