Ulriqa Fernqvist (born June 2nd) better known by her stage name UMA E is a Swedish singer. Hailing from Sweden, she is an independent artist.
Started with doing some vocals for other band constellations and projects at first, delivering her first Single in 2014 with her previous project Audio Donky, Ulriqa has been continually putting out tracks from that point onward. Her main genre of music is Electronica, Pop, Downtempo, and Trip-hop.
Many different reasons for how she came up with her name… but one of them was of course Uma Thurman in Tarantino’s Pulp fiction and Kill Bill, Ulriqa really loves his films, the absurdity, and dialogue, she also really liked Uma in his work. Ever since then, all her tracks are released under her Stage name.
Ulriqa describes her music as electronic, pop/ trip-hop, influenced by the 90’s downtempo, trip-hop, cinematic moods, and electro-technical soundscapes.
Her creative process involves discussing musical ideas all the time, where to go with UMA E. Then her producer Peter Svenzon often comes up with an early-stage musical idea, they talk about what it could become, and she starts working on ideas for the vocals, and text. Then they get together and play around with it, and then it often develops into something completely different, it’s a work in progress.
Ulriqa is an artist from Sweden whose strongest expression always has been dance and singing (movement and Vocal Arts). She’s been working with performing arts for over 20 years, in everything from experimental improvisational concerts to musical installations, and dance performances.
Her inspiration to make music comes from the 90’s downtempo, trip-hop, cinematic moods, and electro-technical soundscapes. Other influences come from her work in visual art and the performing arts which drive the vision for performances of Uma E. Ulriqa producer Peter Svenzon has a background in hip hop, but since 1999 his work has mainly focused on the installation and performing arts context, joining different artistic worlds together, creating images and atmospheres. A moment’s
experience has been his greatest interest, something that has followed into the work of Uma E, where textures, moods, and the search for different worlds collide. A sense of multidisciplinary art has shaped Uma E’s sound.
People can expect a bunch of new music, content, and videos. Uma E is releasing a new single that will be released at the beginning of 2023 and later in the spring she’ll also release an EP. The single is a cover, a “techno prayer” of AHA ́s track “Sun always shines on TV”. And she will keep working hard to reach the stage that few do.
